Steam and gas reach the product with whatever the pipework gives them.
Rust, scale and oil residue from the steam system end up in food and pharmaceutical product. Particles in compressed air and process gas reach instruments, valves and product contact points. Polymer and fabric elements degrade under constant steam and heat, and in gas service polypropylene can fail where a medium that absorbs little moisture does not. Gopani matches the medium to the temperature, the moisture and the contact point.
Which air, gas and steam lines need a filter?
Culinary and clean steam
Steam in direct contact with food, beverage and pharmaceutical product: injection, cooking, retorts, bottle, cap and keg sterilisation, and process sterilisation.
Process steam
Steam used in chemical processes, and steam in power plants before it reaches the turbine.
Compressed and instrument air
Machine air and pneumatic systems that need air free of particles of a specified size.
Process and inert gases
Nitrogen, hydrogen and helium service, and nitrogen blanketing over stored product.
Which medium for which service?
| Service | Gopani medium | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Culinary and clean steam | Clarysynt sintered stainless steel elements in sanitary housings | Hold their structure at steam temperature, shed no fibres, clean and reuse |
| Process steam | Clarysynt sintered metal, SS 316L | Rigid metal media for continuous steam and pressure |
| Compressed air, instrument air, nitrogen, hydrogen, helium | Clarywound GF gas filtration grade | Rigid glass fiber that absorbs little moisture |
| Sterile air and gas | Clarypleat PTFE hydrophobic membrane cartridges | Gas sterilising filtration; steam sterilisable and autoclavable |
| Tank vents and nitrogen blanketing | Vent filters in Clary-T Vent housings | See vent filtration |
What the product data states
Sintered elements
Clarysynt sintered elements in 304, 304L, 316 and 316L stainless steel, Inconel, Hastelloy and Monel, retention ratings from 0.5 to 200 micron, and forward operating pressure from 15 to 25 bar depending on the element.
Glass fiber gas grades
Clarywound GF is supplied in liquid and gas filtration grades, CNC-wound from borosilicate glass fiber on a stainless steel core.
Steam filter ratings
Typical steam filtration pore sizes are stated from 0.2 to 10 micron depending on the impurity load; culinary steam filters are typically rated 1 to 5 micron.
What is not here yet
No plant results for steam or gas service are published here yet. Temperature limits are confirmed for each element and seal in engineering review before we quote.

Air, gas and steam filtration: direct answers
Why use sintered metal for culinary steam when polymer elements cost less?
Culinary steam touches the product, so the filter is judged on what it keeps out and how long it keeps doing it. Sintered stainless steel holds its structure at steam temperature and under pressure differentials, does not shed fibres, and can be cleaned and reused, which gives fewer change-outs than disposable polymer or fabric elements in the same duty.
What pore size does a steam filter need?
It depends on the impurity load and the application. Typical steam filtration ratings run from 0.2 to 10 micron, and culinary steam filters are typically rated 1 to 5 micron. We confirm the rating from your steam quality, pressure and compliance requirement.
When should a steam filter be replaced or cleaned?
When it is clogged, or when the pressure drop across it passes the recommended level. Sintered elements are then cleaned by CIP, back-flush or ultrasonic cleaning and returned to service.
Which gases can glass fiber cartridges handle?
Clarywound GF gas filtration grades cover compressed air, instrument air, nitrogen, hydrogen and helium. Specify the gas grade when ordering.
