In chemical service, the wrong material fails before the filter is full.
Acids, alkalis, oxidisers, reactive solvents and hot thermic fluid attack housings, seals and media long before the element reaches its dirt-holding limit. Gopani matches the metal, the polymer and the O-ring to your chemistry first, then sizes the element for the solids.
Which streams in a chemical plant need filtration?
Corrosive and reactive liquids
Acids, alkalis, oxidising agents and transition-metal solutions, where the housing, the seal and the media all touch the stream.
Solvents and solvent recovery
Reactive solvents filtered in the process line, and solvent vapour recovered on activated carbon so it comes back to the plant instead of leaving it.
Viscous sealants, mastics and waxy solvents
Sealants and mastics that bind engine parts and keep water out of joints, where the product's quality depends on particles removed at high viscosity.
Thermic fluid loops
Heat transfer fluid that picks up iron from pipework and forms carbon as it ages, in loops where a pump seal leak means lost fluid and a shutdown.
Catalyst and precious metal recovery
Platinum, palladium, rhodium and gold catalysts in chemical and petrochemical synthesis, where filtration sits at every recovery step.
Cooling tower and utility water
Feed water and side-stream filtration that takes out the solids behind scale, corrosion and heavy blowdown.
How do we match the filter to your chemistry?
| Process need | Gopani range | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Acidic streams | Plastofilt polypropylene housings; FRP housings with PP lining; rubber-lined construction | Housing material chosen for the pH instead of one steel for every stream |
| Alkaline streams | Clary-T stainless steel housings | Standard SS construction; twin-pod versions keep flow on through change-outs |
| Aggressive or high-alloy duty | Housings in duplex, super duplex, C22 and stainless steel | Alloy follows the chemistry; surfaces treated to resist contaminant retention |
| Fine and critical filtration | Clarypleat pleated cartridges | Broad chemical and thermal compatibility; PTFE variants for aggressive solvents |
| Heavy solids and hot duty | Clarywound string wound: PP for all pH ranges, SS core for heat, glass fiber for the hottest service | Depth media that holds solids across the chemistry range |
| Weak acids and bases and solvents | RO Protect Extreme spun cartridge | Weld-free continuous length, thermally sealed caps, no binders or adhesives |
| Catalyst trapping downstream of the reactor | Clarysynt sintered metal elements | High pressure and temperature; in-situ cake washing and steaming |
| Solvent recovery, amine purification, trace metal removal | Activated carbon grades with sizing guidance | Grade, contact time and superficial velocity set together |
| High solids without consumables | Automatic self-cleaning filters | Depth, surface or cake filtration on continuous duty |
| Filter aid | Alpha cellulose fibre | Made from natural and renewable raw material |
What you can check before you order
A certified quality system
ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturing, with every product quality-checked before it leaves the facility.
Elements you can trace
Part number coding on elements, so a cleaned cartridge goes back into its own vessel and nothing is fitted in the wrong place.
Sealing you can inspect
Seated O-rings in Buna-N, silicone or Viton and clamp closures, specified to stop bypass at high flow.
A pilot before the order
Pilot-scale units ready for dispatch, so the material choice is proven on your stream before you commit to a plant-scale order.
Applications and products for chemical plants
Catalyst Recovery
Closed-circuit sintered metal recovery of precious metal catalyst.

Read the applicationWhy does material come before micron rating?
A cartridge rated for the right particle size still fails if its core, cap or seal reacts with the stream. Because Gopani builds its own filtration equipment, housings can be made in the alloy the chemistry calls for, and surfaces can be treated so contaminants do not cling to them.
Chemical filtration: direct answers
Which housing material should I use for an acidic stream?
Match the housing to the pH before anything else. For alkaline duty, standard stainless steel Clary-T housings are the usual choice. For acidic duty we recommend Plastofilt polypropylene housings, rubber-lined construction, or FRP housings with a PP lining. Where the chemistry rules out standard stainless, housings can be built in duplex, super duplex or C22, subject to engineering review of your stream.
How does filtration protect a thermic fluid system?
Thermic fluid picks up iron particles from pipelines and vessel surfaces, most of all when a new system is first charged, and forms carbon as it oxidises or runs below its recommended velocity. Those solids scale heating surfaces and wear pump mechanical seals, which then leak fluid and force shutdowns. A side-stream filter removes them continuously. We size it from your loop volume, temperature and fluid grade.
Can you filter high-viscosity sealants and mastics?
Yes. Viscous and waxy streams need housings rated for high pressure, elements with the dirt-holding capacity to carry a viscous load, and materials compatible with the product. Gopani builds specialty housings and matching cartridges for these duties and customises them to the product's viscosity, temperature and target particle size.
What does activated carbon need to recover solvent vapour?
The grade is half the design. The bed has to be sized for superficial velocity, contact time, the adsorption isotherm of each solvent and the carbon's adsorption capacity; together they set the carbon's expected life. We give guidance on each parameter along with the grade recommendation, so the bed is sized for your solvent mix rather than picked from a list.
What other chemical processes do you filter?
Slurry filtration, catalyst and salt recovery, deionised water, emission control, feedstock filtration and purification, fermentation broth clarification, final product clarification, and phase separation: liquid from liquid, liquid from gas, and liquid from solid. If your stream is not on this list, send us its chemistry and we will say plainly whether we have a fit.
Send us the stream, not the part number.
Chemistry, pH, temperature, flow and solids load. We will recommend the housing material, the media and the element, and quote change-out intervals and cost per year alongside price.
