In API manufacture, a filter that swells or sheds becomes part of the batch.
Filters that are not compatible with the solvent swell, plug and clog under particle load. Fibres migrate into the product. Part numbers printed on a cartridge can bleed ink or melt into the stream. Each of these is a contamination risk and a deviation to investigate. Gopani matches the medium to the solvent class, and codes elements without ink.
Where do solvents meet a filter in API manufacture?
Reaction mass and intermediates
Solids and particulate removed from reactive solvents and aggressive intermediates, to protect the downstream steps.
Crystallisation and decolourisation
Colour reduction with activated carbon ahead of crystallisation, where the choice between powdered, granular and block carbon matters.
Solvent recovery
Solvent vapour recovered on activated carbon, and recovered solvent cleaned before it goes back into the process.
Final product clarification
Clarification of the finished product stream, and sterilising-grade filtration of aggressive and organic solvents where the application calls for it.
Which medium survives which solvent?
| Duty | Gopani medium | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Aggressive and organic solvents, sterilising grade | Clarypleat PTFE hydrophobic membrane cartridges | Resists a wide range of chemicals; steam sterilisable and autoclavable |
| Strong mineral and organic acids, ketones, esters, aromatic solvents, oxidisers, alkalis | Clarywound GF glass fiber cartridges on SS core | Resists chemistry that would dissolve or deform polypropylene or cotton |
| Specific solvent compatibility | Clarypleat N66 nylon cartridges | Chosen where compatibility with a named solvent decides |
| Hot solvents, bulk solids | ClaryFil PE polyester felt bags | Handles solvents at higher temperature than PP |
| Chromatography solvents, viscous liquids, catalyst | Clarysynt sintered metal elements | Regenerable metal media for heat and pressure |
| Decolourisation before crystallisation | Activated carbon: powdered, granular or carbon block | Block format gives cartridge convenience with a large carbon surface |
| Solvent vapour recovery | Activated carbon grades with sizing guidance | Sized by superficial velocity, contact time and isotherm |
What stands behind the recommendation
Part number coding without ink
Elements carry unique part numbers applied by a coding method with no ink to bleed or melt, so a cleaned cartridge goes back into its original vessel and cross-contamination risk falls.
Heat-treated felt
Polypropylene needle felt in filter bags is heat-treated to stop fibres migrating downstream.
Clean room membrane manufacture
Clarypleat PTFE cartridges are manufactured, tested and packaged in a clean room; component material documentation is available on request.

No batch results for solvent duty are published here yet. We confirm compatibility for your solvent in engineering review, and on a sample element where needed.

Solvent and API filtration: direct answers
Which filter media survive aggressive solvents?
It depends on the solvent class. PTFE membrane for aggressive and organic solvents, including sterilising-grade duty. Glass fiber on a stainless core where strong acids, ketones, esters, aromatics or oxidisers would deform polypropylene. Nylon where compatibility with a specific solvent decides. Sintered metal for hot, pressurised or viscous duty. We confirm the choice against your solvent list before you order.
How do you keep elements traceable without contaminating the product?
Every element carries a unique part number applied by a coding method that uses no ink, so nothing can bleed or melt into the stream. Traceability also makes it simple to return a cleaned cartridge to its original vessel, which reduces cross-contamination risk.
Powdered, granular or block carbon for decolourisation?
All three are used. Powdered and granular carbon are loose media chosen by the colour body and the process; carbon block systems give the convenience of a cartridge with a large surface area of carbon. We help you select the variant for your crystallisation step.
