How to choose the right ClaryFil bag

1

Identify the particle size to remove

For fine depth filtration (1 to 25 micron), choose PP or PE felt. For coarser surface filtration that can be washed and reused (50 to 300 micron), choose nylon NMO mesh.

2

Check temperature and chemical compatibility

Aggressive acid or alkali streams up to 80 C: PP felt. High temperature streams up to 130 C: PE felt or nylon NMO with a steel ring collar. Food, pharma and cosmetics with reusability: NMO mesh.

3

Select your housing size

Size #2 (7 by 32 inch) is the most common industrial size with the highest flow at 34 m3/hr. Size #1 suits smaller batch systems. Sizes #3 and #4 fit low-flow or compact installations. Tell us your housing make and model and we confirm the fit.

4

Choose your collar or ring

Universal PP collar for most chemical and general industrial work. SS 316 ring for high-pressure, food-grade, or pharmaceutical applications, which also enables the 130 C rating. Zinc-coated steel ring as a cost-effective alternative where food-grade certification is not required.

5

Standard or custom

Standard configurations are stocked for fast dispatch. For non-standard sizes or custom media and micron ratings, our team engineers bags to specification with low minimum order quantities.

Why 500+ industries specify ClaryFil

What is a liquid filter bag and how does it work?

A liquid filter bag is a permeable textile bag installed inside a bag filter housing. Process liquid is pumped into the housing and forced through the bag, which captures suspended particles either within the bag fibres (depth filtration, felt bags) or on the bag surface (surface filtration, nylon mesh bags). Clean filtered liquid exits through the housing outlet. Filter bags are the most economical choice for high-flow, high-contamination liquid filtration.

What micron ratings are available in ClaryFil filter bags?

ClaryFil PP and PE felt bags are available in 9 standard ratings: 1, 3, 5, 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, and 200 micron. ClaryFil NMO nylon mesh bags are available in 7 standard ratings: 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 micron. Additional ratings can be manufactured on request. Contact Gopani for application-specific guidance on selecting the correct micron rating.

What is the maximum operating temperature for ClaryFil bags?

ClaryFil PP felt bags and any bag with the universal polypropylene collar are rated to a maximum of 80 C. ClaryFil PE polyester felt bags and nylon NMO mesh bags used with a stainless steel 316 or zinc-coated steel ring collar are rated to a maximum of 130 C. Never exceed the rated temperature; doing so will damage the bag and may compromise filtration integrity.

What are the standard ClaryFil filter bag sizes?

ClaryFil bags are produced in four standard industry sizes: Size #1 (7 inch diameter by 16 inch long, max 18 cubic metres per hour), Size #2 (7 by 32 inch, max 34 cubic metres per hour), Size #3 (4 by 8 inch, max 6 cubic metres per hour), and Size #4 (4 by 14 inch, max 12 cubic metres per hour). Additional sizes including 4x10, 4x20, 4x24 and 7x36 inch are available, and custom dimensions are produced on request.

What collar and ring options are available?

Three options are available. The universal polypropylene (PP) collar suits most chemical and industrial applications and is rated to 80 C. The stainless steel 316 ring is for food-grade, pharmaceutical, high-pressure, or high-temperature applications up to 130 C. The zinc-coated steel ring is a cost-effective alternative to SS for applications that do not require food-grade certification. The collar must match your housing inlet ring specification.

What is the difference between felt bags and nylon mesh bags?

Felt bags (PP and PE) are depth filtration media: particles are trapped within the fibre matrix through the thickness of the bag. They are available in finer ratings (1 to 200 micron), hold large quantities of solids, and are single-use. Nylon monofilament mesh bags are surface filtration media: particles are captured on the surface at a precisely defined mesh opening size (50 to 300 micron). Mesh bags hold less solids but can be washed and reused, making them more economical in lower-contamination applications.

Can ClaryFil nylon mesh bags be washed and reused?

Yes. ClaryFil NMO nylon monofilament mesh bags are designed for cleaning and reuse. They can be backwashed with clean water or rinsed with a compatible solvent, depending on the contaminant. The number of reuse cycles depends on the application; contact Gopani for guidance. PP and PE felt bags are single-use and should not be washed, as the fibre structure compresses and loses filtration efficiency.

What is the difference between polypropylene and polyester filter bags?

PP (polypropylene) felt bags offer excellent chemical resistance across a broad pH range, suitable for acids, alkalis, and many solvents, up to a maximum of 80 C. PE (polyester) felt bags offer good chemical resistance with significantly higher temperature tolerance, up to 130 C when used with a steel ring collar. Choose PP for chemical aggressiveness; choose PE when temperature exceeds 80 C.

Can Gopani manufacture custom ClaryFil bags to non-standard dimensions?

Yes. Gopani engineers custom ClaryFil bags to non-standard sizes, including 4x10, 4x20, 4x24, and 7x36 inch as listed in our catalog, as well as fully bespoke dimensions. Custom micron ratings and custom media combinations are also available. Minimum order quantities are kept low for trial orders.
