Where oil meets water
Oil reaches water in effluent treatment plants, CNC machining and metalworking coolant loops, wash water and parts cleaning, compressor condensate, stormwater and rainwater runoff, refinery and petrochemical effluent polishing, power plant cooling water and boiler feed water, and food processing wastewater carrying fats, oils and grease. In most of these, a bag filter housing is already on the line or easy to add.
What oil in water costs
Free oil that passes a particle filter reaches the discharge point, the downstream membrane or the process it was meant to protect. Treating it usually means separate equipment: a coalescer, a skimmer, or a treatment stage the plant has to find space and budget for. Where the oil load is moderate, that equipment can be more than the duty needs, and the plant ends up either over-investing or discharging oil it should have removed.
Oil adsorption and particle capture in one bag
The media is melt blown polypropylene treated to be hydrophobic and oleophilic: water passes, oil is drawn into the fibre matrix and held. At the same time the melt blown depth structure traps suspended solids. One bag in a standard housing does both jobs in a single pass. It is built for free, non-emulsified oil; emulsified oil needs demulsification or membrane separation first. For heavy or continuous oil loads, a coalescer is the right primary stage, with these bags as the polishing step after it.
Deciding whether a bag can do it
Is the oil free or emulsified?
The bag takes free oil. If the oil is mechanically or chemically emulsified, it needs demulsification or membrane separation before a bag can help.
How heavy is the load?
For moderate oil loads, the bag alone in a standard housing is the simplest answer. For very high or continuous loads, put a coalescer first and use the bag to polish.
Check temperature and housing
The bag is rated to 80 C. It fits standard size #1 and #2 housings with a universal PP collar or an SS 316 ring.
Plan the change-out
Bags are single use. Change on the pressure differential across the bag, or earlier if the outlet oil reading rises, and dispose of spent bags as oily waste.

Flow figures are the catalogue maximum for the bag size. Oil removal needs contact time, so the flow at which a bag meets your oil target is usually lower; we size on your oil load and target, not on the housing maximum. Sizes #3 and #4 appear in one catalogue answer and are confirmed per order.
Conditions behind the numbers
The 1.5 kg capacity is a free-oil figure and falls with lighter synthetic oils, higher temperature and higher flow. The maximum flow per size is a housing figure; the flow at which a bag meets a discharge target is lower and is set on your stream. The 80 C limit applies to the bag.

How much oil can one bag hold?
Up to about 1.5 kg of free oil, depending on oil type, viscosity, temperature and flow rate. Heavier crude and mineral oils are taken up more readily than lighter synthetic oils. Watch the pressure differential across the bag to decide when to change it.
Will it remove emulsified oil?
No. The bag is designed for free, non-emulsified oils and hydrocarbons. Mechanically or chemically emulsified oil needs a different treatment first, such as chemical demulsification or membrane separation. For a mix of free and emulsified oil, we design a multi-stage train.
Will it fit my existing bag housing?
The bags are made in standard size #1 (7 by 16 inch) and size #2 (7 by 32 inch), the dimensions most bag housings take, and they drop in where a felt bag sits today. Tell us the housing make and model and we confirm the collar fit.
Can the bag be washed and reused?
No. Once the melt blown media is saturated with oil, washing does not restore its capacity. Replace the bag and dispose of the spent one under your local rules for oily waste.
When is a coalescer the better choice?
For very high oil loads or continuous heavy separation, a coalescer should be the primary stage, with oil adsorbing bags as the polishing step after it. For moderate loads, the bag alone in a standard housing is simpler and needs no additional equipment.
