ClaryFil NMO Mesh Bags

A mesh opening set by the weave, not by how full the bag is.

ClaryFil NMO bags strain on a single layer of woven nylon 6,6 monofilament. The opening is fixed when the cloth is woven, so the cut-off holds as the bag loads and after it is washed. Standard sizes #1 to #4, PP collar or steel ring.

NMO bags sit where the liquid carries coarse, countable particles at a modest load and the plant wants a sharp cut rather than a deep bed: paint, ink and coating straining before filling and on recirculation; juice, wine and syrup straining; coolant and metalworking fluid; pharmaceutical and cosmetic liquids; water pre-filtration for large particles; electroplating and surface treatment baths; pulp, paper and textile process water.

Two failures are common. A felt bag used on a light, coarse load is thrown away after every change-out, so the plant buys, handles and disposes of a bag each time the housing is opened. A mesh bag used on a heavy load of fine or sticky solids blinds on its surface long before it has done useful work. The first costs consumables and labour every week; the second costs flow and unplanned stops. Choosing the media for the load, not by habit, is the whole decision.

Each strand of the cloth is a single nylon 6,6 filament, woven into openings of a defined size. Particles larger than the opening stop on the surface; smaller ones pass. Because the opening is set by the weave rather than by compressed fibres, it does not tighten or drift as the bag loads, and the smooth filament releases the cake when the bag is backwashed, rinsed or cleaned ultrasonically. That is what makes the bag washable and why a washed bag strains to the same rating as a new one, provided the mesh is intact.

1

Check that mesh is the right media

Mesh suits an exact, repeatable cut, a low to moderate solids load, and duty where washing and reuse lower running cost. If the particles are finer than 25 micron, gelatinous or sticky, or the load is heavy, use a PP or PE felt bag instead.

2

Pick the opening

Match the mesh rating to the smallest particle you must stop. Standard ratings run 50 to 300 micron; finer and coarser meshes are listed on the data sheet and are confirmed per order.

3

Check chemistry and temperature

Nylon 6,6 resists most organic solvents, fuels and alkaline solutions but not strong mineral acids. Up to 80 C a PP collar is enough; above 80 C and up to 130 C, specify an SS 316 or zinc-plated steel ring.

4

Match size and collar to the housing

Sizes #1 to #4 follow the standard bag-housing dimensions. Tell us the housing make and model and the collar it seals on, and we confirm the fit before you order.

Code format: CFB-NMO-[Micron]-[Size]-[Fitment]. Fitment codes: SS = SS 316 ring, Z = zinc-plated steel ring, P = universal PP collar. Example: CFB-NMO-100-2-SS is a 100 micron, size #2 bag with an SS 316 ring.

Conditions behind the numbers

The temperature limits are set by the collar: 80 C with a PP collar, 130 C with a steel ring. The flow figures are the catalogue maximum per bag size, stated without a fluid, viscosity or pressure drop, so treat them as a ceiling and let us size against your fluid. The reuse range depends on the cleaning method and the contaminant.

Fits the housings you already run

Bags are made to the standard #1 to #4 dimensions used by most bag filter housings. Gopani Clary-T BF stainless housings take sizes #1 to #4; Polyfilt BF uPVC housings take sizes #1 and #2. We confirm fit against your housing make and model, since collar and ring seats vary.

How many times can an NMO bag be washed and reused?

Our catalogue gives 5 to 20+ cycles as the typical range, depending on the application, the cleaning method and operating conditions. Gentle backwashing or ultrasonic cleaning extends bag life. Because the openings are fixed by the weave rather than by compressed fibre, a washed bag strains to its rated opening as long as the mesh is undamaged, so inspect it before every reuse.

What is the best way to clean an NMO bag?

Backwash with clean water at moderate pressure. For stubborn deposits, clean ultrasonically or soak in a mild detergent solution. Avoid sharp mechanical scrubbing, which can distort the mesh openings, and check the mesh visually for tears or blocked areas before the bag goes back into service.

Can an NMO bag filter below 25 micron?

No. The mesh range starts at 25 micron on the data sheet and at 50 micron in the standard range. For finer duty, a PP felt bag (from 1 micron) or a PE felt bag gives depth filtration suited to fine particles.

Which chemicals does nylon monofilament tolerate?

Nylon 6,6 resists most organic solvents, fuels and alkaline solutions. It has limited resistance to strong mineral acids such as hydrochloric and sulfuric acid; for strongly acidic streams a PP bag is the better choice. Send us the fluid and we check compatibility before you order.

When should I choose felt instead of mesh?

Choose felt (PP or PE) when you need high dirt-holding capacity on fine particles, depth filtration of gelatinous or sticky contaminants, or ratings below 25 micron. Choose NMO mesh when you need an exact, repeatable cut, when bags must be washed and reused to lower running cost, or when the solids load is low enough that a depth bed would be oversized.

What temperature can an NMO bag take?

Up to 80 C with a universal PP collar. With an SS 316 or zinc-plated steel ring the bag is rated to 130 C. The collar, not the mesh, sets the lower limit, so specify a steel ring for hot duty.

How are orders supplied and documented?

Standard ClaryFil configurations are held for quick dispatch; custom bags are typically produced in 2 to 4 weeks from specification approval, with low minimums for pilot batches. Export orders ship with material test certificates and ISO 9001:2015 documentation, individually sealed and batch-labelled, on DDP or CIF terms. OEM and private-label supply is available.

  • The fluid, its temperature and, if known, its viscosity
  • The particle you need to stop, or a sample of the solids
  • Flow rate and how the load varies over a shift
  • Housing make and model, and the collar or ring it seals on
  • How you will clean the bag, and your current bag and change-out interval

ClaryFil bags are made at our Ahmedabad plant under an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system, and each bag carries a CFB part code, so a reorder is the same bag. Reuse is duty dependent: our catalogue states that NMO bags typically go back into service 5 to 20+ times, depending on the application, the cleaning method and operating conditions. We treat that as a range to confirm on your fluid, not a promise, and we will run the first bags with you and record the cycles.

Tell us what you strain and how you clean.

Fluid, temperature, the particle you need to stop, flow, and your housing make and model. We reply with the mesh rating, the part code and a quote.
